Evening Primrose Oil is also known as the King's Cure-All, Oenothera Biennis, Sundrop, Evening Star, Fever-Plant, Gardeners' Ham, German Rampion, it produced from the cold-pressed seeds of the plant evening primrose.
Oenothera Biennis (Evening primrose) is a tall plant, it is called Evening Primrose because the yellow flowers only bloom in the evening; hence its common name. Its origins can be traced back to ancient Rome and Greece. It was widely used in the the17th century in Britain, hence the name "The King of Cure-All".
History of Oenothera Biennis (Evening Primrose Oil):
The Greek Oenothera name is derived from “oinos” and “theras”, meaning “wine-seeker”, which possibly was referred to like this because it said to be used for scenting wine.
During the 17th century, in England, the Oenothera Biennis (Evening Primrose herb was called “the King's cure-all" and it was considered as a herb that can most ailments.
The seeds then spread to Germany, where it became known as German Rampion and was used as food. This herb was also used as food for many Native Americans, they also used the leaves for bruises and hemorrhoids.
Evening Primrose Oil has a high content of linoleic acid contains 90% of unsaturated fatty acids (80%+ are polyunsaturated) and contains 9% Greater than a minimum of 9% o(GLA). The gamma-linolenic acid (GLA) contributes to good skin health and helps in skin cell regeneration and product the skin from harmful environmental effects.
